Learning for Life

Forest School

At Oakdale Infants' and Junior Schools we are proud to offer every child Forest School with Mrs Beacon, our Forest School Lead.  Forest School is an ethos which encourages the development of children’s emotional and physical skills in the great outdoors through play, exploration and investigation. These positive experiences will foster independence, confidence, communication skills and self-esteem.  The sessions may include activities such as tool use, bug hunting, den making and knot tying. Many activities will be spontaneous, based upon the children’s interest and the seasonal opportunities that the grounds provide! Whilst plans are in place for progression, sessions are truly child led and if they are intrigued or inspired by something they find, then that is what the session is about!

Each year group will have their Forest School sessions at a different point in the year, so over the children's time at Oakdale, they will experience each season and the changes that the bring to our grounds fostering a connection with the great outdoors and recognising the fantastic impact this can have on our mental health and well-being.  Over time, we notice how children develop an increased respect for the environment, creatures and each other!
