Oakdale's Personal Development Programme

Personal Development at Oakdale

At Oakdale Infants’ and Junior schools, we are committed to providing our pupils with a curriculum that supports their academic, spiritual, moral, social, cultural and emotional development.  Our aim is to provide exceptional personal development for every pupil who attends our schools, including those pupils who are disadvantaged.  We are proud of the opportunities that are provided by our wider curriculum and extra-curricular activities, providing pupils with a rich set of experiences and we offer these rich experiences in a coherently planned way.  At Oakdale, we believe that every child has unique talents and it is our job to help them shine.

During their time at Oakdale, learners will receive a Personal Development Programme that gives them the knowledge that they need to make decisions, to be resilient and to develop their character and personality. Our pupils will have the knowledge and skills to contribute positively to their community, being respectful of everyone they meet, and positively to the world as global citizens.

Our curriculum is rooted in ‘Equity’ meaning that all staff recognise that pupils have different starting points and therefore they will need different resources or opportunities to help them accel.  This process of development is ongoing as new barriers emerge and are subsequently overcome.  Our commitment to equity weaves through all aspects of school life including friendships, talents, understanding of world issues and all subjects across the curriculum.

We support pupils to develop a strong sense of self and to begin to understand what they and others need to thrive and lead happy lives.  We teach pupils the knowledge, skills and values to engage with the wider world and empower them to believe they can make a difference as global citizens. This is achieved through the seven principles that underpin the Oakdale Curriculum.
